BROWNVILLE – Summer Saturdays are always a great time in Brownville, Neb., but mark your calendars for July 18. The Brownville Education Center for the Arts and Humanities (BECAH) has two special events planned: a daylong writers’ workshop and a whole hog barbeque fundraiser for The Antiquarium, its home at 309 Water Street.

For Anyone Interested in Writing BECAH is partnering with Larksong Writers Place in Lincoln to host “Pathways, Roadways & Rivers to Inspiration,” a daylong workshop July 18 that includes a trio of sessions – one focused on poetry, one on fantasy | science fiction and one on journaling. The event will be held at The Antiquarium from 9:00am to 3:30pm. The cost is $75 for the day, and lunch is included. The workshop is limited to 12 participants.

In the morning, Lucy Adkins will present "Finding the Poet Within: A Poetry Writing Workshop." Up next, Nick Salestrom will teach "Writing on Dragonback: Finding Inspiration in Fantasy and Science-Fiction." Following a lunch break at the whole hog barbeque fundraiser, Karen Gettert Shoemaker will finish the day with "Reimagining the Journal: Creative, Visual, and Unexpected Approaches to the Writer's Notebook."

For Anyone Interested in Eating BECAH will host its annual summer fundraiser – a whole hog barbeque – July 18 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at City Hall in downtown Brownville, 101 Main Street. The public is invited to attend, and the event is a free will donation.

Greg Gubser and crew will set up the night before to begin the full hog roast process, which takes about 12 hours plus many more for preparation. Josh Sierks, another member of the team, will be using one of his antique tractors and an old-fashioned ice cream churn to create a sweet treat for all hog roast goers.
