BROWNVILLE – Brownville Fine Arts and the Brownville Education Center for Arts and Humanities (BECAH) are joining forces to offer a summer series of Saturday events at each location. Brownville Fine Arts operates the Schoolhouse Art Gallery at 427 Main Street, and BECAH operates The Antiquarium at 309 Water Street. All activities are free and open to the public.

The series kicks off Saturday, June 20. Mary M. Hines will present “Lakota Culture and Care of Mother Earth” at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery at 10:00am. Her presentation explores why more understanding of Lakota culture and spiritual beliefs might help open the public to new thinking about how to become better stewards of our planet Earth. This program is made possible by Nebraska Humanities.

Later that afternoon, George Newbert will present “Southwest Native American Pottery” at The Antiquarium at 1:00pm. This program will explore the history, physical technique and artistic expressions representing tribal identity and spiritual connection to the earth. Attendees will view select pieces from the Flatwater Folk Art Museum. Refreshments will be provided. This program is made possible by the Sherwood Foundation.
